All the courses will be published within the first week of the semester!

Fotokommission provides a variety of photography courses for every skill level.

Courses

The courses build on each other, but can also be attended independently of each other. If you can operate your camera in manual mode, you can basically attend any of our courses in any order. The courses focus on the technical side, but the teachers bring their own experience and photography style to the table.

Courses typically include a practical part and a joint photo critique session of the photos taken during the course and submitted for discussion. You can also have your favorite photo printed after each course. If you don’t have your own camera, you can borrow one from us for the course (limited availability).

Course Overview

While the courses are designed to be self contained, the intermediate level courses and workshops expect that you can comfortably operate your camera and we recommend attending the Basics of Photography course if you are new to photography. The Corsizio catalog offers more details on the specific courses.

Basics of Photography (2 x 2h)
In this course you will learn how to operate your camera manually. It is typically offered multiple times during the semester. This course is important for a good foundation: Exposure: aperture, shutter speed and ISO, Angle of view / focal length (If you can’t operate your camera manually `blind-folded’ and quickly, we recommend this course)

Composition (2 x 2h)
While camera settings and the technical details of your gear are important to understand, the artistic element of photography requires understanding light, colour and composition techniques. This course will teach you the basics of composition with genre specific techniques discussed in the other dedicated courses.

Digital Photography (2 x 2h)
This course is designed to target a more demanding university audience, explaining the science and technology behind digital photography. It deals with the entire workflow in digital photography from the technical details of camera sensors and lenses to image characteristics and advanced in-field practical tips.

Specialised courses and workshops
We offer various courses on more niche genres of photography depending on the availability of our teachers. Join our Discord community or check our Corsizio offerings once the semester starts for up-to-date information.

Event Photography
Our commission wants to be able to deploy good event photographers within the VSETH. Of course, we also need to train them. We visit VSETH events in teams and thus you can gain direct experience working with more experienced Fotokommission members. We will also guide you regarding the administrative matters which are an important part of professional photography:
